KEEPING FRENCH ALIVE ON CAPE COD
WELCOME!
BIENVENUE!
Welcome to the Société Francophone de Cape Cod!
Who are we? We are a group of French speaking people who meet for dinner once a month in an area restaurant (mostly in the Falmouth-Sandwich area) to converse in French and meet others who share our interest in things French and francophone. The only "rule" is French only, which means that a comfortable knowledge of conversational French is very important! We have no officers, no projects, no work, and no dues. Our team of "directeurs" considers making these gatherings "fun"!
The Société was founded in April 2007 by Pauline Nelson, Ph.D, Professor of Foreign Languages Emeritus at Bethany College (WV). We are normally between twenty and thirty participants per month. We usually take "summer vacations" in July and August. For five months of winter (October, November, December, January, and February), we meet only at lunchtime, so that those who would prefer not to drive at night are able to attend. At those winter sessions, we usually have about twenty attendees. For all of our meals together, reservations are required two days before the event. At the meal we each order from the regular menu and simply pay for our own meal individually. Although we sometimes have a theme related to a French holiday, there are no formal programs...we just talk with each other!
If you feel comfortable with our level of French and decide that you are interested in being on our mailing list for announcements of future meetings, simply e-mail me (pljadmin@comcast.net) with your telephone number and USPS address so that we can reach you by other means than e-mail if the need arises. (This information will be for Société use only.) Or perhaps you may be wondering whether or not you would be at ease with the Société's level of French. If so, you're welcome to attend one of our gatherings to see how comfortable you feel. (Upcoming Events).
